Yes, you read right, I have been offered a contract on my historical erotica, "The Last Celtic Witch". Allow me to tell you everything.
I was at the Florida Romance Writers conference in Miami. I am the Treasurer for this organization and worked the conference like a horse. With little sleep and time to eat, I ran around most of the weekend putting out fires and documenting funds. I LOVED IT! I was in my element. Not to mention that I roomed with two incredibly fabulous girls who kept me sane with laughter.
It was one of the nights where we ended up at the bar, (Okay, truth be told, we ended up at the bar every night) where a group of us sat around drinking and talking about our manuscripts. And the topic went to sex. Three of my critique partners looked directly at me and started to talk about my sex scenes. I laughed, knowing only to well what they were about to inform to the larger group.
They told everyone that I write amazing sex scenes. Enough to make one of my partner's pale and another almost faint. They went on and on about my manuscripts while I just sat back and smiled. It is always nice when someone else talks about your stories with praise. In this industry of rejection, writers need all the brownie points we can get.
So, back to the story. I sat back and smiled, thinking to myself, "from your lips to the editors ears". Which is my usual come back to my critique partners when they praise my writing and wonder why I am not published yet.
Little did I know, that there were three new editors sitting right beside me. The girls I have been drinking and joking with. Their ears pricked up when my critique partners started to talk about my sex scenes. One of the co-founders of Resplendence Publishing gave me her card and said she was keen for me to submit and couldn't wait to read my manuscript.
I was shocked to find out that these girls were editors. They were writers too and understood the highs and lows of being a writer. They were incredibly friendly and open about their new publishing company, and I spent most of the night asking them how/where/why/when. I loved their enthusiasm. It was contagious.
When I came home, I emailed my submission to them and the next day, I received a phone call. The phone call every writer waits years for, "I read your submission and loved it!"
Since then, I have been doing a happy dance. Resplendence Publishing has treated me so well. They are being launched at Heather Graham's conference in New Orleans, August 31, 2007. I will be there as one of their first authors, proudly presenting my book, "The Last Celtic Witch".
